ARSEA/APEAL 42nd Annual Convention

ARSEA/APEAL CONVENTION DREW MEDIA ATTENTION

ARSEA/APEAL held its 42nd Annual Convention at RSA’s Marriott Hotel and Convention Center in Prattville this week, the day’s events featured an opening luncheon keynote address by Gov. Kay Ivey and a political forum with the Republican and Democratic nominees for statewide constitutional offices.  Both events attracted substantial media attention from newspapers and television stations across the state.

Our “Meet the Candidates” event, which drew in-person appearances from candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, and other offices, was the lead story on Montgomery’s most-watched news channel, and the report included live coverage from our convention and several prominent mentions of ARSEA/APEAL.

The Opening Luncheon featured Gov. Kay Ivey’s keynote speech at the convention’s opening luncheon similarly attracted reporters from all media outlets represented in the Capitol press corps.

The ARSEA Foundation presented a contribution to the Elderly Nutrition Program to Alabama Department of Senior Services Commissioner Jean Brown. Brown discussed the program and its expansion in the state.  The Foundation’s Wellness Expo featured exhibits from sponsors, vendors and others with screenings and flu vaccinations provided by Jackson Hospital and SEIB Wellness. ARSEA/APEAL members were glad to see this event on our schedule again.

Our FOREPAC dinner and “Legislator of the Year” award presentation to Speaker Mac McCutcheon prompted lawmakers from Mobile to Huntsville and all points in between to attend. Speaker McCutcheon was clearly touched and emotional as he accepted our award just a little more than a month before he retires from the Alabama Legislature.

On Thursday morning, Retirement Systems of Alabama Deputy Director of Administration Jo Moore was the keynote speaker for our Awards Breakfast which was the closing event.  She left us with a positive outlook despite the bleak economic forecast we are seeing now.

Because of the important information that was shared during our two-day event, we plan to provide summaries and some videos of the presentations to our members over the next few weeks.
